Great content, good app.
Great content, good app.
I really enjoy reading the articles. Ive been reading Salon for years. I am more than a little tired of seeing Ann Coulters face everytime I open the app, though. The most read stories have remained the same since June. Unfortunately the most read story at the time was a story about her defending Trump as not being a racist. That got old a long time ago. If you could correct this I would gladly give you 5 stars.
Search is a critical function for a news app. The search function does not appear to work. I searched for "Clinton". No results. I searched for "Bob Dylan". No results. I searched "Malala Yousafzai". No results.
I feel like they recycle a lot of their stories by just republishing them with a new title and image. They dont even bother trying to keep their most read articles up to date. Or maybe their read articles are the most read because that is all they have to read.
I understand the election is near, but Salons team of writers have found nothing interesting enough in the entire world that deserves attention besides Donald Trump. Talented as the staff may be, their utter disregard for all current events that dont surround Donald Trump is very disappointing.
Ive read your articles for quite awhile, recently installed the app. The writers put a good left handed swing on things.. keep up the good work.. we need the pot to be stirred=] Only drawback is that news isnt always fresh and some grammatical errors.. may make it seem not as believable at times : /
We all know Salon has a heavy ideological slant. And thats ok as long as you realize that. But the last few years it reads more like a blog written by some junior-high Fellow Travelers. It used to be a good source for a certain side. It also offered some great thought and arguments for that side. Its totally in the same class now as folks who post ridiculous things on Facebook that they havent taken 5 mins to figure out of theyre even making a factually correct statement. It seems like Hitchens was the last contributor that was smart enough to express cogent thought. It was like they were waiting for him to die so they could just go off-the-wall insane. Its depressing. What I also did odd is that these authors/contributors get paid for the content try produce. As a former editor and contributor for major news outlets I find it hard to believe that they could simultaneously lower their standards so far, so fast, and retain a majority of their readership. Its baffling in addition to being sad.
I feel dumb just reading it.
Unlike some, I have no beef with the content of the Salon.com site, but their app for the iPad has become so sluggish, it can take more than ten seconds before it displays a page after clicking on the link. Nothing happens to let you know your selection has worked, until ten seconds later when it updates the display. Like others have mentioned, the Most Read column hasnt been updated since July. Please fix this.
Would be stars but some categories not updating on iPad as they should.
This App works just fine if you like salon.com. There is one very annoying glitch that has gone unfixed for a long time. The most read section gets stuck on articles that are very old (3 to 12 months). The issue does not resolve itself if you delete the app and reinstall.
Crashe a louverture...
Indispensable ...
I love salon and ever since the website was changed the mobile version stopped working. So I thought this would be a good substitute for trying to load reading view on safari. For the most part it works but the font on an iPhone is too small. I think a text size adjuster would work. Also add a gallery view option for your wonderful galleries please. Thanks!
Salon was one of the very first sites I read on a mobile browser 10 years ago. hard to figure theyd still be stumbling along now! No landscape mode?! Freezes when opening external links. Weird formatting.
I cant read the content! The Serif font hurts my eyes, and distracts do much that I cant read through an article! Ive tried to compensate by reduce g the font, but its unsettling to the point of extreme distraction. Please fix this, Salon!!!
Newest version still has not fixed the problem for this user. Splash screen shows for one second, then app crashes. On iPad with iOS 6
Very intuitive.
If you want me to drive ad revenue by using your app instead of going to your mobile site, the app has to be at least as good. I hate that I have to click a story even to read the whole headline, so I uninstalled the app.
The new update crashes on opening every time, rendering this app completely useless. It used to be good, though.
