Hopefully this will help to offset the one-stars. Youre not the only app to get bitten by this bug in App Store submissions. ;)

Settings like text size are not saved permanently. Sometimes lost between sessions. Sometimes lost only if app crashes. Oh - app crashes. Auto disappearance of < button sometimes fails as you scroll down. It remains sitting at the top. Worse, auto-reappearance of < sometimes fails when you scroll up - as it used to in very old versions of this app. I found the only way to get back is to load a link to some other story, then hit < and then < again as the back button reappears. Im not using any new features. I only know basic functionality is now very unreliable. The basic program has become unstable. Salon has never been usable on iOS Safari. It hangs then reloads. This app is all site readers have. Sad.
Yeah, yeah I know, delete and reinstall. But I expect to have to do stuff like that on a Windows PC, not an iPhone. Maybe dont break the app in the first place?
Selecting ANY story/item - the APP CLOSES - BOMBS - started today
The content is fine, would have given more stars just based on that. Everyone can find a writer to love and one to hate on a given day. Functionality is not great. First, as noted by others, the app had to be deleted and reinstalled to work after a previous update. Now every time I open Salon its reverted to the smallest text size, requiring a trip to Settings over and over. Pain in the..
This version is DEAD ON ARRIVAL. No articles display, only text placeholders . Remove the app and re-install to recover from this faulty update.
This app should be discontinued. Glaring problems from years ago persist, update after update. Todays insult? This 2nd to last update no longer hides the giant SALON logo at the top when scrolling down an article. Yay! Less room for content, more branding! I guess since this new feature survived through 2 releases were stuck with it. Thanks!
Very low-quality far-left-fringe content
Excellent writing. Enjoy the stories. Salon has been my raft in a sea of poor journalism. Only problem is with short pieces that end with a video. Theres no link to click. iPhone 5
Great way to get a selection of the news of the day.
This is literally worse than a high school newspaper....No offense to the highschoolers.
The content is often good, but some of the columnists are off the deep end. The app is buggy -- new articles appear first, but after tapping "load more" you get a mix of second-level recent articles and stuff from two months ago.
I love reading Salon! Your articles tend to reflect my sympathies. My only concern is grammatical errors of which Ive come across several of late. Newspapers have these errors all the time, the Atlantic does not. I hope that your publication would strive towards that standard and save me the pains of digesting fast journalism.
I love this app, giving 4 stars BUT Id gladly give it 5 stars if they fixed ONE thing. Ive just read a story so I scroll back up to top looking for arrow in top left corner thats basically the back button to get me back to section I got story from but sometimes its not there and Ive tried all kinds of things to make it appear on my iPhone 6 but most of time it doesnt appear so I close app, double click on what I have open and delete open apps then go back to Salon. Hope above makes sense but Cliffnotes version is make the back arrow automatically appear when scrolling back up to top of page.
Inaccurate. Authors are so one-sided. Not reliable at ALL. Probably trying to see how big of a lie they can tell and see if people are dumb enough to believe it. Delete it immediately
I enjoy the long-form articles and visit often. Why has an article about Leonardo DiCaprios Rimi movie been on my "most read" banner for months?
I dont think Salon reads the reviews and possibly dont care. Yes you have great articles and reporting but all that is overshadowed by when your mobile site crashes and your app has to be relaunched. Get with the 21st century Salon!
Not a bad app, but for some reason the Front Page Most Read section has been stuck on the same set of story links (and their accompanying images) for the last six months. Maybe more. Ive reinstalled the app and the problem remains uncorrected with the update. Not sure whats causing the problem on Salons mobile site - it does not show up on the regular website.
The "most read" section sticks on days most read from installation or last update. Very annoying as dynamic most read would make for better experience. Rarely check this app.
I mostly love the content but the big space taken up by Most Read is so annoying because it never refreshes. Please either fix or remove it.
